A comforter set gives you the quilt and the bedding that goes with it in one order. Ours come as 6 piece and 8 piece sets, king size, with a quilted polyester filled comforter, a bed sheet, four pillow covers, and cushion covers on the larger set. Each set is stitched to order rather than pulled off a shelf. Cash on delivery is available and 50 percent is paid in advance.

Is a comforter what you want?

Four words get used as if they mean the same thing here, and they do not. A comforter is filled and stitched through, and you use it exactly as it comes. Nothing goes over it. That is what this page sells. A razai is the heavy traditional winter quilt, thicker than a comforter and made for real cold. A dohar is the light summer layer, usually cotton with thin padding, for nights when you want something over you but not warmth. If you would rather change the look of the bed through the year without buying a new quilt each time, you want a filled insert with a changeable cover instead. Our duvet and quilt covers are a separate range, in pure cotton, king size at 90 by 95 inches. Buy a comforter if you want one thing you put on the bed and use.

What comes in the set?

• Our 6 piece set contains one quilted king size comforter with polyester filling, one bed sheet at 94 by 97 inches, and four pillow covers at 19 by 29 inches each.
• Our 8 piece set adds two cushion covers to the same contents.

Some designs come in a larger format where both the bed sheet and the comforter measure 98 by 102 inches. Exact contents and measurements are on every product page, so check the one you are ordering. Worth knowing before you compare prices elsewhere. A higher piece count usually means more cushion covers rather than more bedding. Six pieces with a bed sheet included is more useful than ten pieces where four of them are small cushions.

How warm will it be?

This is the question nobody in this market answers, and it decides whether you actually use the thing. Filling is what makes a comforter warm, and it is measured by weight. Sets sold here commonly run around 350 grams per square metre, while a proper winter quilt runs closer to 500. That difference is not small. It is the gap between comfortable in November and shivering in January. Match it to where you live. In Karachi, a lighter filling works most of the year and a heavy quilt will sit in the cupboard unused. In Lahore, Faisalabad or Multan, a mid weight covers autumn and most of winter. In Islamabad, Murree, Quetta or anywhere upcountry, expect to need something heavier in December and January, or to sleep under two layers. So check the filling before you fall in love with the design. The design is a preference. The warmth is the product.

What size do I need?

Our sets are king size, with the bed sheet at 94 by 97 inches or 98 by 102 depending on the design. Measure your mattress width before ordering. A comforter needs to hang over both sides of the bed, or it slides towards whoever pulls hardest and someone wakes up uncovered. Allow roughly 10 to 12 inches of overhang each side. Stitched to order, and what that means for you

We do not hold finished sets in stock. Each one is stitched after you order, which is why we take 50 percent in advance and the balance on delivery. Being straight about the trade off. It takes longer than buying something already boxed. What you get for that is the design you actually want, made in your size, rather than choosing from whatever a warehouse happens to be holding. Which fabric for the outer shell?

Cotton breathes best and is the sensible choice for a set that stays on the bed through the season. Cotton satin has a soft sheen and suits a guest room or a bridal set, though it shows creases more. Printed cotton hides marks better than a plain shade, which matters in a house with children. The fabric for each design is listed on its product page.

Buying for a wedding or as a gift

Comforter sets are one of the most given wedding gifts in Pakistan and a standard part of a jahez. Order six to eight weeks before the shaadi. Because our sets are made to order, wedding season is our busiest period and lead times stretch. Choose a shade that works in a room nobody has decorated yet, which usually means ivory, deep red or a soft neutral rather than a strong print. And buy for the bed the couple will actually use, not the one in the photographs.

How do I wash it?

A filled comforter is not a bed sheet, and most home machines here cannot handle a king size one properly. If your machine has the capacity, wash cold on a gentle cycle on its own. Otherwise send it to a dry cleaner. Dry it fully before folding, because filling that goes away damp develops a smell you will not get out. Shake it out well while drying so the filling spreads back evenly instead of clumping at one end. The bed sheet and pillow covers wash normally and can go in weekly.

Prices in Pakistan

Sets here run from around Rs 8,000 up to Rs 14,500 at the branded end, with bridal sets well above that. What moves the price is filling weight, shell fabric, piece count and size. One caution when comparing. Several sellers in this market show every product permanently at half price. When a discount never ends, the higher figure is not a real price. Compare what you actually pay.

Does a bed sheet come with the set?

Yes. Both our 6 piece and 8 piece sets include a bed sheet along with the comforter and four pillow covers.

Do I need a cover to go over the comforter?

No. A comforter is used as it comes. If you want a changeable cover, you need a filled insert instead, which goes with our quilt cover range.

Why do I pay 50 percent in advance?

Each set is stitched after you order rather than taken from stock, so the advance covers the work starting. The balance is paid on delivery.

Will it be warm enough for winter?

That depends on filling weight and where you live. Lighter filling suits Karachi and mild winters. Upcountry in December and January you will want something heavier.

Can I wash it at home?

Only if your machine takes a king size filled quilt. Otherwise dry clean it. Dry it fully and shake it out so the filling does not clump.
