What size do I need?

Take one cushion you already own and measure it corner to corner across the front, in inches. That figure is your size. The sizes in general use in Pakistan are 16 by 16, 18 by 18 and 20 by 20 for squares, 12 by 20 for a rectangle, and around 26 by 26 for a floor cushion. Ours are 16 by 16, which is a common size for sofa cushions and for ready made fillers sold here. One rule almost nobody publishes. A cover should match the filler exactly, or be up to an inch smaller. If the cover is bigger than the cushion inside it, the corners sag and it looks flat within a day. Slightly smaller is better than slightly larger, because the filler pushes into the corners and the cushion looks full. Does the cushion come inside?

No, unless a listing says so. What you are buying is the outer cloth that slips over a cushion you already have. This catches a lot of buyers out, because sellers list a cover and show a photo of a plump finished cushion. Check the listing before you order. If you need the inner cushions too, our cushion and pillow filling is sold separately.

How firm should a cushion be?

This decides whether your cushions still look good in six months, and no seller here talks about it. Fillers are sold by weight. As a guide from what is on the market, a 16 by 16 cushion takes around 450 grams of filling, an 18 by 18 around 500 grams, a 20 by 20 around 620 grams, and a floor cushion around 1200 grams. Most are filled with polyester ball fibre. A filler well under those weights feels soft at first and then flattens. If you are replacing covers on cushions that have gone limp, the problem is the filler rather than the cloth, and a new cover over a dead cushion will not fix it.

Which fabric suits your room?

Match the cloth to how the room is actually used. Each product page lists what that design is made from. Cotton is the sensible choice for cushions on a sofa people sit on daily. It breathes, takes a wash well, and does not hold heat in a Karachi or Lahore summer. Velvet looks rich and suits a drawing room kept for guests, or the cold months from November to February. It shows dust faster and it is warm to lean against in June. Printed designs hide small marks and give a plain sofa some life. Plain shades are easier to swap around and easier to match with what you already own. Ivory and light grey keep a small room feeling open. Deeper shades hold up better in a room with children.

Washing and care

Before you buy, check whether the cover opens. Some cushions sold in this market are stitched shut and cannot be washed at all, which matters on something that sits on a sofa every day. Wash cold or warm, never hot, because heat shrinks cloth and a shrunk cover will not go back over the filler. Dry in shade rather than direct sun, which fades colour fastest in a Pakistani summer. Wash every four to six weeks in a busy house, or straight after a spill. Iron on the reverse if the design is printed.

How many cushions look right on a sofa?

An odd number usually sits better than an even one, so three on a three seater and five across a large sofa. Mixing helps. One plain, one printed, and one in a different size gives a sofa depth. Matching every cushion to the sofa cover makes a room look like a showroom rather than a home. Keep two or three colours running through the room and stop there. If your sofa already has a cover on it, choose cushions that pick up one colour from it rather than copying it exactly.

Refreshing a room before Eid or guest season

This is why most people here buy them, and it is a sound reason. Changing covers costs a fraction of changing a sofa cover or curtains, takes ten minutes, and changes how a room reads.
