Skardu is the coldest place we ship to. January averages around minus 17, and the Katpana cold desert outside town has recorded minus 25. August, the warmest month, averages about 11 degrees with highs just over 16.
That inverts the usual advice. Everywhere else in Pakistan the question is what survives the heat. Here there is no summer set. One warm weight carries the whole year, and even in August a bed needs a cover on it at night.
Layering matters more at altitude than weight does. A cotton sheet against the mattress, then a blanket, then a quilt traps still air between each layer, and it can be opened up on a mild afternoon and closed again after dark.
The other thing about Skardu is the season. Snow holds until late April, and the valley works from May through September, when guest houses and hotels fill. Bedding in those months takes months of use compressed into weeks, so buy for wash cycles rather than appearance, and buy plain so a single worn set can be replaced without redoing a room.
