September fills the hostels. Students arrive at the University of Agriculture, Government College University and the National Textile University, and most of them buy bedding in the first week without knowing what a hostel actually does to it.
Start with the size. Hostel beds are usually narrower than a single bed at home, and many are simple metal frames with a thin mattress. Measure the mattress rather than trusting the word single, or ask someone already in the block.
Then buy two sets, not one. Laundry in a hostel is shared and slow, so one set stays on the bed while the other waits its turn. A student with one set ends up sleeping on it far longer than they should.
Choose plain over printed. Shared machines run hot with harsh detergent, and rooftop drying in Punjab sun fades print quickly. Plain cloth ages evenly, and when one set wears out the replacement still matches. Plain cotton in single size handles this better than anything decorative.
Avoid white. In a shared room it shows every mark within weeks. Mid tones hide wear and wash back cleaner.
