Why cotton is the right base for stitched work

Cotton grips thread better than mixed cloth, so the design holds its shape after washing. It also breathes when Lahore crosses 40 degrees in June.   • Machine work. Every repeat matches and the back is flat and regular. It holds up better under weekly washing.
Punjabi phulkari, meaning flower work, is stitched from the back of coarse cotton and was traditionally prepared for a bride before her wedding. How to wash and iron cotton embroidered bed sheets

  1. Turn the sheet inside out and wash cold on a gentle cycle.
  2. Use a mild liquid detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  3. Dry in shade, never in direct sun, so thread colour holds.
  4. Iron from the reverse side so the iron never sits on the stitching.
